Basil
Sacred

This seed is from our own plants.  Sacred basil has a unique odor and flavor, hardly seeming like a basil at all.  You have to clip this plant frequently, for it will bolt to seed faster than the other basils.  Said to be sacred in Hinduism, and to have a place in Ayurvedic medicine. $2.00 per 6-pack size. Choose number of packs using menu arrow above Cart button

Broccoli
Marathon (68 days after TP, F1 Hyb.)

Here's what Johnny's Seeds says about  Marathon: This late, cool weather variety is widely planted in California. Highly tolerant to cold. Grown successfully in the Northeast for late summer and fall crop. Last summer we planted this variety in early June, and it did well, but that was a cool summer.

Thompson Broccoli

A few words about red-colored vegetables. First off, a red cabbage is going to be a bit more healthy than a green one, because it combines the anti-cancer component in the brassica family-sulforaphane-with the flavonoid component that makes the red cabbage red.
When red brassicas (red cabbage, purple bok choy, red brussels sprouts) are cooked in a higher pH dish, there may be a tendency for the broth to turn blue-not always an appetizing color. Addition of some acidic liquid such as vinegar or lemon juice is said to return the dish to the more appetizing red color.
Cabbage
Early Jersey Wakefield (60 days after TP)

Early Wakefield' was first brought to Jersey City from England in 1840. Quickly renamed 'Early Jersey Wakefield,' this compact 2-4 pound cabbage started appearing in American seed catalogs around 1872. It's rise to fame was, in fact, faster and bigger than Bruce's. By 1888 it was the most popular early cabbage in American gardens..

Hardening-off trays of seedlings at 39 degrees. Once they've germinated, they're put outside in a few days.  At night, a double layer of Agribon row-cover has kept them in good shape down to 24 degrees.  We did, however, bring everything in for that 16-degree night not so long ago...
